The International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network has been established. The thirteen-member body includes world-renowned experts from three continents and ten scientific fields.
According to HUN-REN’s announcement, the members were invited by Balázs Gulyás, President of HUN-REN, and their appointments were confirmed at the 25 February meeting of the HUN-REN Governing Board (GB).
The members of the Board will strengthen HUN-REN’s international relations, visibility, and competitiveness through their expertise, and will play a prominent role in shaping HUN-REN’s strategy in cooperation with the Governing Board and the President.
“Among the members we can welcome, among others, László Lovász, former President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences; Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford; Alexander Zehnder, former President of the Swiss ETH Domain; Jana Kolar, former Director General of CERIC-ERIC; Antoine Petit, President and CEO of the French CNRS; Lam Khin Yong, Vice President of Nanyang Technological University; and Sir Philip Campbell, former Editor-in-Chief of the journal Nature,” the announcement stated.
Balázs Gulyás, President of HUN-REN and the Governing Board, described the establishment of the board as a defining step in strengthening HUN-REN’s international scientific support and developing its relations. As he explained, the members will contribute to advancing cross-border research collaborations through their achievements, experience, international networks, and roles in global scientific life, thereby strengthening HUN-REN’s international presence.
Roland Jakab, CEO of HUN-REN, added that the members also have significant connections in the research and industrial-innovation sectors.
“Drawing on their expertise, HUN-REN can more effectively develop and implement a sustainable, future-shaping research strategy built on scientific excellence, innovation, and societal impact,” he elaborated.
The ISAB assists the work of the Governing Board with its recommendations and participates in the development and modernisation of HUN-REN. Several of the Board members had previously served as international scientific advisors to HUN-REN.
